When flying for business, time is often of the essence. Many of the major airports of key business cities can be very crowded and busy especially during travel peak times. If you fly privately, you can make it an even quicker and more pleasant travel experience, by avoiding the stress of bigger airports.

Many cities across Europe have alternative airports, which can be quieter and are therefore perfect for private travel, as they allow more flexibility around timetables due to more available departure slots. Very often, these airports also offer superior facilities for group travel, compared to the main airport hubs.

Milan

Popular airport: Milan Malpensa (MXP)

Alternative airport: Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY)

Bergamo Orio al Serio airport is located north-east of Milan and takes around an hour to reach the city centre. Although it is the further away from the city centre than the other airports servicing Milan, it provides an efficient transport network into the heart of the city, with less crowds at the airport itself.  

Distance from Milan city centre: 45km

Facilities: There is one terminal at the airport, offering two VIP lounges, free Wi-Fi connection

Airport facts: Open 24 hours.

Nearby amenities: As the airport is situated to the north of Milan, it is also well-placed for access to the lakes region, ideal for incentive travel.

Vienna

Popular airport: Vienna International (VIE)

Alternative airport: Airport Bratislava (BTS)

Airport Bratislava welcomes around 1.9 million passengers a year and its excellent transport connections make it a good alternative for accessing Vienna. Although Bratislava is not a dedicated private aviation airport, it offers an excellent dedicated private jet terminal.

Distance from Vienna city centre: 87km

Facilities: The dedicated terminal operates its own passport, customs and security controls. Free Wi-Fi connection is available and for a fee, a “Full VIP-service” including food and beverage and a porter service is available. The terminal has its own dedicated car park available for a charge. There is also a press lounge available with a capacity of 40 places.

Nearby amenities: There are three convention centres in Vienna, accommodating from 5,000 to 30,000 delegates. For incentives, private classical music concerts and themed walking tours are popular.

Copenhagen

Popular airport: Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (CPH)

Alternative airport: Malmö Airport (MMX)

This airport based in Southern Sweden provides an alternative quieter airport to access Copenhagen, which is an easy journey of around 30 minutes away.

Distance from Copenhagen city centre: 62km

Facilities: One FBO (Fixed Based Operator) offering a VIP lounge and conference facilities which were upgraded in 2010. There is also car parking available, and an adjacent airport hotel.

Airport facts: Two runways, open 24 hours a day

Nearby amenities: The Royal Arena in Copenhagen is a new multi-purpose facility in Copenhagen, hosting sports, conferences, music and cultural events.

Barcelona

Popular airport: Barcelona-El Prat (BCN)
Alternative airport: Barcelona Reus (REU)

Reus Airport is located to the south-west of Barcelona, taking an hour and 15 minute drive to reach the city centre.

Distance from Barcelona city centre: 88km

Facilities: There is a lounge for conferences and business or private meetings in the restricted area of the terminal available. Free Wi-Fi service at the airport. Good parking facilities for group travel.

Airport facts: one runway, open 07:30am – 10.30pm

Nearby amenities: Barcelona is one of the most popular cities for group travel for business because it has something to offer for all types of events, from small group meetings to large product launches. This is due to the great array of outstanding venues (city and beach), hotel accommodation and easy transportation around the city. Staff sailing trips on a stunning boat or team building with a larger dinner party – opportunities here are second-to-none.

Stockholm

 Popular airport: Stockholm Arlanda (ARN)

Alternative airport: Stockholm Bromma (BMA)

Stockholm’s Bromma airport is the closest airport to the city centre, around a 20-minute drive away. It services just four scheduled airlines and light, medium and some long-range jets.

Distance from Stockholm city centre: 9km

Facilities: Two FBOs operate from the airport. The Grafair Jet Centre provides a range of facilities dedicated to private travellers including free car parking adjacent to the terminal, dedicated lounge offering a range of drinks and snacks, meeting rooms (bookable in advance), Wi-Fi access. In the terminal itself there are also shops and two restaurants.

Airport facts: One runway. Opening hours are 07:00 – 22:00 (Monday – Friday), 09:00 – 17:00 (Saturday) and 12:00 – 22:00 (Sunday).

Nearby amenities: Stockholm boasts a variety of conference centres, including Stockholm Globe Arenas, Ericsson Globe and Stockholmsmässan.
