As you watch, a shadow flits across the sea. Above it, silhouetted against the infinite blue Maldives sky, a prettily-painted sea plane is racing you to the island. So your friends decided to take a quicker airport transfer. From a deep easy-chair on deck it’s worth giving them a wave. Let them hurry. Leisurely and elegant is more your style and, anyway, a school of exuberant dolphins has arrived to escort you across the lagoon. A rainbow of spray spatters the teak deck and with it comes the best sensation yet: yesterday is a world away. Now you’re already on island time.
